The Right Wine For A Great Wedding Reception

wedding wine cateringFor many couples planning their very special wedding reception, they place extra care in their choice of their wine. Wine in weddings has played an important role in any wedding feast for a wedding toast will not be complete without it.

Many wedding caterers can readily assist you in making a fine choice. You can make your initial inquiries so that you may be guided accordingly. The usual question many couple ask is what kind of wine is ideal to serve in a wedding reception. Champagne will most likely be the popular choice or another sparkling white wine for that matter. The list goes on moving to red, white or rose wine.

There is really no need for couples to serve wine at the reception. The usual practice is to have each of your guest a glass of wine or a cocktail drink, that has meaning to you or the appropriate choice for your wedding theme, like a sangria for Spanish themed wedding.  For many couples, their choice of wine is based on the particular season that their wedding was held. For instance, a winter wedding will select a different wine from a spring a wedding.

For practical purposes, you can choose to have both white and red wine. If possible, try to have some rose colored wine as well. Men usually like red while women choose white. You can study your guests list and make your order based on the proportion of men to women.

It is a known fact that wine, if chosen properly, can contribute to a great tasting meal. Your wedding caterer will surely advise you on what wine goes with what kind of dish so that your guests will have a treat for their palate. However, this may cost you more since you will have several courses having very varied dishes. If this is so, then you would need an extensive list of matching wine. If you are working on a tight budget, make it simple but still sumptuous by having a general white wine like a Sauvignon Blanc, which can be great addition to any kind of meal. Another option is to opt for a light red like a Merlot, which is ideal for fish and chicken dishes. If you are having red meat, you can get Shiraz, a full red wine.

A reception is actually more about sharing a meal. Determine beforehand how long you want your reception to be so that you may also advise your caterer as to how much wine to serve. An hour long event will require about two glasses of wine for every guest. The usual practice is for every two guests, order one bottle, which will be for the main meal. In addition, you will need two glasses of champagne for each guest to use for the wedding toast. A good rule of thumb is to make allowance for more, since it is a disaster to run out of wine, or better yet, arrange with your caterer to have extra bottles just in case you miscalculated. You do not have to pay for these bottles of wine that were not opened or serve.

The usual custom during a wedding toast is to serve Champagne, which is basically a sparkling white wine from France. You do not have to order all the way from France because it will be very expensive. You can choose a local sparkling white wine, which will do great without costing you much.
