Simplify Your Wedding Reception Menu

simple wedding menuPreparing a wedding can be really exhausting so if you are working on a tight budget and do not plan to hire a wedding event organizer, you may choose to simplify things without compromising having a memorable wedding. Some couples even intentionally do the planning and coordinating themselves so that they could truly own their wedding and make sure it is just what they wanted.

You can begin to simplify your wedding reception menu, but make sure you also take into consideration the special diet of some of your guests, who could be a vegetarian or a non-pork eater because of religious beliefs. There are many options to make your food and drinks simple and yet sumptuous. You could either choose to have a canapés or a snack food reception, a buffet, or a sit down meal.

A buffet is far cheaper since you will not need additional servers unlike in a sit down meal. You could also make a menu that covers most dishes like pork, chicken, fish and vegetables. Your guests can easily partake of the food that they like to eat.

Canapés are lighter meals made from various ingredients served in quaint preparations. These are finger foods with style. These are actually a bit more expensive because they use gourmet ingredients, but they are certainly delectable. The standard rule is to serve six canapés for every person if your reception is before lunch. You allow fourteen or more canapés if it is purely a canapé reception. The ideal mix of canapés is to have some half cold and half hot with at least a third of the menu, purely vegetarian and a tenth, vegan. Your guests will most likely be unable to tell which is which so assign a food server who knows everything about his canapés. Remember to choose canapés that are not messy to eat for this will not do for your formal wedding banquet.

With regards to the entrees, choose a preparation that utilizes local produce that are in season. This will be cheaper. Again, choose the kinds that are easy to eat like a cold vegetarian salad.

If you choose to have a buffet, ask your staff or host to announce the order of each table to line up to the buffet table. Keeping everybody organized will not overcrowd your buffet table and make things running smoothly. This is one aspect of buffet meals that makes sit down lunches or dinners more preferred. If you select the latter, you can reduce your cost by choosing a single plate menu. This will make the task easier for the caterer and the food servers. Moreover, choose ingredients that are in season to keep to your budget and make your dish fitting to the season. You do not want to serve a cold dish on a freezing day. As much as you can, know your guests and any food allergies that they might have. Take this into consideration in talking to your wedding catering service. Include some kid-friendly and elderly-appropriate choices for they can be picky with their food choices.

Desserts are the final note to your menu and this should be well chosen. A good dessert completes a good meal. Individual servings are typically the practice and the easiest to serve. Choose desserts according to the season. If you are having an outdoor reception, make sure your desserts will not melt. If your main dish is heavy enough and rich like a pork roast, do not go overboard with your puddings. You do not want your guest to feel overstuffed and complain of tummy aches afterwards. There are occasions when couples make their wedding cake as the dessert. This is a very practical and simple choice.

When the menu is composed of rich choices, it is always wise to serve coffee or tea. To avoid cluttering the dinner table, set aside a table especially for coffee and tea. This is a good way for guests to have the opportunity to leave their seats and socialize with the other guests. To make the table attractive, add a tray with small slices from the wedding cake.

Your wedding reception may be simple but it is a thoughtful gesture for all your guests. Every one will be able to share with you a good meal on your very special day.
